Program Summary:

Learn the essentials for a comfortable and efficient freestyle stroke. Program includes initial weekend sessions and a refresher session.

Prerequisites:

Participants should be comfortable in the water and be able to swim one of any stroke for 25m recreationally.

  • 10:30am - 1:00pm dryland and pool session
  • 1:00pm - 2:00pm break (Discussion: How to Solve Common Swimming Obstacles)

Sunday, March 7th, 2010

  • 10:30am - 12:00 pm dryland and pool session
  • 12:00pm - 1:00pm break (Discussion: How to Approach Swimming Practice)
  • 1:00pm - 3:30pm dryland and pool session

April 4, 2010 (To Be Confirmed)

  •  Included refresher for March 6-7 weekend participants. If you cannot make the refresher when it is scheduled, you can attend another equivalent weekend or weekday refresher session on Vancouver Island or in Greater Vancouver instead, where there is availability. Ongoing refreshers are intended to take place in Victoria.

What to bring:

Please bring swim goggles, fitted swim suits (ie. not baggy shorts), towels, snacks and/or lunch, if desired.

A swim cap is often helpful to retain warmth. The facility has a sauna and hot tub to warm up at times but if you get cold easily you can bring a thin wetsuit top or other thin thermal top. Bring hot water in a thermos on deck, which will help a lot with cold in and out of the water.

If you have difficulty keeping water out of your nose and it is a major distraction, please bring a nose clip. We will show you how to function without a nose clip, but it may help in the initial stages. Fins are also useful, if you find kicking is an obstacle for you.

We will help you kick more effectively, but for the early stages, having fins will help you learn body positions and balance points.

Cancellations:

We require 72 hours to guarantee a full refund. If you cancel with less than 72 hours notice, we will do our best to find another person to take your place. Please, contact us as soon as possible if, after registering, attending becomes a concern!

Transfers:

Give us enough advanced notice and we'd be happy to transfer your registration to a future program.

Participants under 18:

If you are under 18 years of age, you will need a parent or guardian to sign your liability waiver form when you arrive for the  program.
