Dryland practice:

Standing switches with breathing. (5-10 minutes)

Pool practice:

Breathing with fins (review)

  •  Exhalations (nose and mouth, timing and preferences)
  •  Head turn (leave crown in the water)
  •  Pauses to adjust (relax neck / rotation)
  •  Try without fins

Single switches with breathing - (with fins if needed, let swimmers decide)

* This is a key drill for long term improvement. Does everyone understand why?

  •  Pause before and after
  •  Recovery focus
  •  Entry focus
  •  Rotation / send energy forward focus
  • "Are you in a breathing position (glide)" focus
  •  Minimize vertical motion

Full strokes without breathing

  •  Minimize vertical motion drill
  •  Stroke rhythm lays foundation for synchronized breath (1,2,3)
  •  Try a breath or two
