Introduction

Practice is important!

For the drills (dryland and pool practices), try to remember the adjustments made by us during this drill and practice at home and in front of a mirror until it comes quickly and consistently each time you attempt the posture.

Please, practice the dryland once in between Tuesday and Thursday sessions.

Dryland practice:

Turning your head is easy, right?

Review of standing glide posture.

Practice finding awareness of good head rotation posture and eye focus.

Experiment with glide and rotating your torso and head at the same time as though you were rotating to air for breath.

Pool practice:

Review of kicking in glide posture. If you are not moving in glide posture put on fins for now, they are a tool to remove distraction as we focus on other things.

  • Adjusting glide posture and longitude balance with head relaxation and positioning (let head float).
  • Adjusting glide posture and longitude balance with gliding arm/hand aim angle (extend a weightless arm).
  • Adjusting glide posture and lateral balance with degree of torso rotation (find the right twist).

Keeping water out of the nose and familiarizing yourself with maintaing glide posture while rotating your head towards air:

  • Perform glide posture while exhaling through the nose lightly (positive pressure in the nose).
  • Perform glide posture while exhaling through the nose lightly and turn part way towards air (45-90 degrees).
  • Perform glide posture while exhaling through the nose lightly and turn part way towards air (90 - 120 degrees).

Conclusion

Bring nose clips next class if you were getting water up your nose or avoiding so by lifting your head up. You can purchase them at the YWCA front desk.
