YWCA Pool Closure
For those of you who have not heard, the YWCA pool downtown will be closed for change room renovations from March 18th to May 25th. We'll be looking to offer courses and lesson there again starting in June.
Due to the closure, Peter and Tyler will not be offering private lessons in downtown Vancouver. If you would like to see us before the closure, please contact us asap.
We are offering evening refresher classes to anyone who has taken classes with us previously.
These sessions will be held on March 2nd, 4th, 9th and 11th at 7pm. Spots will be available first come, first served. Please let us know on our website by indicating your interest to attend. To register, call the YWCA at 604-895-5777. We also intend to offer refresher sessions in April at other locations.
To help you stay on track with your practice during the pool closure, we're offering the following services:
* Private and semi-private lessons at the West Vancouver Aquatic Centre
with Coach Tyler
* An online Sensational Freestyle practice plan for all abilities
* Online distance swimming practices for triathletes and open water swimmers
* Two beat kick and catch speed sessions
Stay tuned for more information on these items in the next few weeks. During the pool closure, we'll also be hard at work creating video and article resources to help you succeed with swimming and underwater adventures.
Have a question about our services during the pool closure? Please contact us
at info@seahiker.com. Visit www.ywcahealthandfitness.com for more information.
Sensational Freestyle in March
We are pleased to offer more Sensational Freestyle courses in the Lower Mainland in the coming months.
Vancouver Island: Space is still available for the Sensational Freestyle weekend course in Sooke (just outside of Victoria). We have a good group of people already confirmed and have room for a few more.
West Vancouver: We still have a few spaces available for the 4-week program at the the West Vancouver Aquatic Centre starting March 8th. Register today!
Downtown Vancouver: We are looking to offer an evening Sensational Freestyle 4-week course at the Vancouver Aquatic Centre, as an alternative location for our usual course at the YWCA. Sign-up on the waiting list to have first priority for registration - registration will be done on our website, not at the VAC. Please note that this course will begin on March 16th or on a later date, not March 2nd as previously announced.
Langley: We will soon open registrations for our Sensational Freestyle course at the Walnut Grove Pool in Langley on March 20-21st. Please sign up for waiting list (you get first priority for registration) if you would like to attend.
Open Water Swimming
Originally, we had hoped to offer an open water workout weekly class at one of the main beaches in Vancouver starting in April. However, banking on good weather is difficult for a paid class, so we've decided instead to invite anyone who is interested in a free cold water group swim every Wednesday evening sometime between 5:00 - 7:00 pm at English Bay Beach (just off Beach Avenue).
To attend, you must be able to swim 250m without stopping and have the proper cold water swim gear including: wetsuit (3mm minimum), hood, gloves, socks, your own hot water, change of clothes, and a dry bag to keep things dry in case of inclement weather. Swimmers and finswimmers are welcome for this free session!
The date and times for this session will be confirmed in a few weeks. Let us know your preferences!
We are looking to establish a coached intermediate open water swim practice throughout the Spring and Summer. Whether or not you join us in April for cold water swims, please sign up to indicate your interest for the practice sessions as the weather improves and let us know your preferred locations, dates and times.
In May, we'll be starting up our popular Sensational Freestyle Open Water program, so stay tuned!
Happy Swimming!
