Long Distance Swim Pod Details:

This is a 7-week course designed to help you learn and practice the essentials of efficient swimming for triathlon and distance swimming.

Learn how to swim more efficiently and with less effort.  In this introductory course, you will learn the keys to efficient swimming in a step-by-step course that will have you swimming practices of up to 2000m per hour. You can swim at least 100m non-stop and you hope to be able to swim 500-750m with ease as a first step on your way to triathlons and longer swim practices.  This is a lesson-based course that will show you the fundamentals of efficiency, propulsion and body awareness for swimming in triathlons or for fitness and help you build distance in your swim practices up to 2000m. Course includes video analysis and online practice guide with supplemental practices to guide you during and after the course (Practices: 750m-2000m.)

You should take this course if you:

  • find it difficult to swim continuously for more than 100-200m
  • need to reduce effort for triathlon swimming
  • want to improve technique and build distance
  • have questions about effective stroke mechanics, kicking and catch/pull

Each week you will learn the fundamentals of efficient swimming, from a solid foundation in body position, balance and overall body awareness.  You will also learn key drills for improving stroke timing, catch & pull, two beat and flutter kick, rotation, and establishing a relaxing tempo.

Your Sea Hiker coach with help you accelerate your swimming skills with Swim Pod swim practices, which include:

  • video analysis, benchmarking and individual feedback
  • in-water demonstrations of key drills to improve your swimming
  • weekly swim sessions (one to two sessions per week)
  • ongoing technique coaching
  • supplemental swim practices (outside of class)
  • how to build distance to 500-750m non-stop

Ideal for new triathletes looking to swim sprint to Olympic tri distances

Spaces: This swim pod is limited to ten swimmers (2 swim lanes).

Cost & Schedule

Tuesdays and Fridays, 7-8 am

  • January 10th - February 24th (14 sessions / 7 weeks)
  • YMCA Member price: $245 ($155 for once a week)
  • Non-Member price: $255 ($165 for once a week)

** Note: Mid-season Registration: Depending on availability, you may register part way through the course if you need a later start date. Cost will be pro-rated as above for this season.

Prerequisites

You should be comfortable swimming 100m non-stop and have taken Easy Laps or have the equivalent skills. Not sure? Contact us for more information or attend one of our upcoming pool seminars at the YMCA. 

Participants under 18

If you are under 18 years of age, you will need a parent or guardian to sign your liability waiver form when you arrive for the program.
