What We Do
Why is it that so many people swim in pools but few venture out into lakes, rivers and oceans? Sea Hiker founders Peter Scott and Tyler Zetterstrom realized that society has created limiting beliefs around open water pursuits. There is a wilderness that covers more than 70% of the planet and yet few people feel comfortable in it.
The biggest obstacle is the confidence to play, explore and achieve comfort in the water. Peter and Tyler decided to help people learn the essentials for exploring the aquatic wilderness.
It was easy to see that everyday people benefitted enormously from this approach, but also swimmers, triathletes, snorkelers and anyone involved in activities in or around the water. As accomplished watermen, Tyler and Peter both saw that deep down, most people had some level of anxiety or fear that prevented them from truly enjoying their time in the water.
Origins
Peter Scott and Tyler Zetterstrom met in 2001 and discovered a shared passion for adventure in the aquatic wilderness of British Columbia and other places. They began collaborating on several projects including seahiking adventures, competitive freediving, community mentorship, and the development of new instruction approaches. Sea Hiker was founded officially in 2006 and has grown steadily since then to offer clients exciting opportunities to explore the ocean, above and below the surface.
Concept
Seahiking is meant to represent a way to approach water that is congruent with your own comfort level. Just as a hiker can take a noontime stroll in a park or embark on a mutiple-week Himalayan expedition, depending on his or her level of confidence, skill and experience, so too should we have the opportunity to do the same in the water. Peter and Tyler see seahiking as a similar activity that should naturally evolve from a passion and enjoyment of the water. Once you learn essential skills, knowledge, and familiarity, amazing explorations and experiences become possible.
Whether you want to feel safe with your family at the beach or turn the ocean into your own personal domain for adventure, Sea Hiker offers you what you need.
