Bahamas Swim Camp Day 5 - Swimming in the Blue

It was our last day of the swim camp, and for most campers their last day in the Bahamas.

Deal's Beach didn't disappoint, blue skies and calm waters were waiting for us as we began our last day of teaching. We had planned a half day session only, allowing for sight seeing, bag packing and last minute frolicking for all those leaving the next morning.

And so we began with a short group lesson, recapping some of the main points of the underwater catch and stroke & two beat kick techniques. Longer swims to spend time on each main focus, and from the video, one-on-one analysis, we could see that everyone had made progress during the week.

With a final good bye dinner to look forward to later in the evening, the afternoon was free time for all. Our coaching staff took advantage of this to upload all of the week's video footage. Along with a USB stick with their swimming videos, each swimmer also received two Bahamas swim camp caps and a Sea Hiker T shirt, and a few week later, a comprehensive video analysis summary with screen shots, video clips and written recommendations for practice and training and a 13 workout practice guide focused on long distance open water training in the winter months.

All the Swim Camp participants also received the offer of free email and phone support for the months following the camp to contact the coaches with any questions or advice on how to train for the summer open water season. Sea Hiker gives you free tech support - for life!

Our goodbye dinner ended the week how we had begun it, with rum punch and another gourmet dinner banquet from the Sea Hiker staff. We were certainly sad for those leaving, as rainy Vancouver awaited, but from all signs, Long Island and the soft beaches, warm faces and smooth strokes taken in the Bahamas had left their mark.
