Bahamas Swim Camp Day 4 - Cape Santa Maria
We thought we were used to the 'Good Morning' greeting of wind and rain the Atlantic ocean delivered each day at around 8 am, but Thursday's was quite a spectacular storm, with lashing rain and winds.
Still, by the time we had set up at Deal's Beach, most of it had subsided once again. Having a regular beach to swim at amid the raging ocean swells allowed us to spend the morning in private lessons and hone techniques and drills in a long-distance group swim under incredible skies.
We had agreed to meet after lunch for an afternoon swim at Cape Santa Maria, one of the longest and most beautiful beaches on Long Island. As we met in the lobby, it began pouring with rain and didn't stop until we had arrived at our destination some 30 minutes later, after navigating potholed roads and giant puddles that were small lakes in their own right.
We were treated to a dramatic sky, breath-taking blue and green hues in the water and long walks on the beach, our feet sinking deep into sandy so thick powdery it felt much like snow!

The beach was deserted and perfect for our snorkelling and swimming group. We walked along almost the entire length of the beach enjoying the afternoon sun, as the storm we had witnessed moved out over in the of Long Island.
As some of us searched for reefs to explore, others swam along the shoreline eager to practice new found skills and techniques. With almost a week of continuous learning and training, we could already see improvements in some participants. And with a chance to swim and play everyday, it was great to see how much everyone loved being in the open water.
We ended the afternoon of swimming, with an impromtu body surfing session in the shorebreak - a wave that was at least 30 cm on the bigger swells!
